What is a

Hearing Itinerant?

Hearing Itinerant Teachers provide direct consultative services to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. The goal of the Hearing Itinerant Program is to facilitate academic, social, and emotional success for its students.

Services include:

​

  • Individual or group instruction (within or outside of the classroom) 

​

  • Consultation with classroom teachers regarding individual student accommodations and modifications needed in the classroom

​

  • Staff training and classroom in-service training about hearing loss including its often invisible challenges to students at school and how to use student ALD equipment

​

  • Evaluating whether a student's hearing loss may be impacting their functional and academic performance success in the classroom 

​

  • Writing individual education plans for students found eligible for hearing itinerant services including goals, services, and accommodations needed in class and during assessments

​

  • Lesson design to meet individual student auditory and self-advocacy goals

​

  • Data collection and progress reporting on student hearing IEP goals

​

  • ALD equipment functional checks and troubleshooting

​

  • Consultation with audiologists and school nurses 

​

  • Classroom observations and assessments

​
